Jakarta Escapades (+ One Direction Concert)

The Jakarta trip was one of the unplanned and impulsively booked travels that we’d probably have more in the future. It was an afternoon in mid-February when I, Sherica, Mary, and Claire were talking about One Direction concerts nearing to show dates and how Mary will be finding herself into at least three OTRA shows (Singapore, Manila, Jakarta) of the boys. An hour later, I and Sherica found ourselves with plane tickets to Jakarta and One Direction concert tickets. One squad, one goal. One flies to Jakarta to see 1D, we join.

Anyways, the concert was in Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Central Jakarta where we also found a hippie hostel to stay in for the next two days. There were few (almost to none) tourist friendly spots (at least, we didn’t find a place that was reachable by cab) in Central Jakarta except for flea markets and antique shops but it has definitely the… Jakarta traffic the world is talking about.

Day 1

We flew with Cebu Pacific Air.

A sort of a freedom wall within the hostel’s lobby.

Jamming with Bob, a reggae artist residing in the hostel. We’re surprised he knew Filipino artists that we aren’t even familiar with.

Day 2

Indonesian food is arguably the best (maybe next to Indian food) cuisine I’ve ever tasted. Nasi goreng (fried rice) is just a plateful of flavors! Beef rendang has got to be my favorite which is beef chunks slowly cooked in coconut milk with spices. We lunched out at Sari Ratu (local restaurant at Plaza Indonesia) where we literally freaked out and went “WE DID NOT ORDER THIS. WAIT! WAIT!” when we were served a whole bunch of Indonesian feast right away. Little did we know that it works that way and you get charged whatever you touched.

Photo 3-24-15, 12 47 09 PMWaiting for our simcard to be installed because the squad just can’t survive without internet. We availed 8 GB consumable for 1 month but ended up using short of 4 GB. Lol.

We had coffee and tea at Mandarin Oriental Hotel hoping to bump into at least 1/5 of the boys but ill-fatedly, we did not see them. However, Josh and Sandy (1D’s drummer and bassist) were there who we literally touched elbows with.

Photo 3-24-15, 11 21 37 PMWe went back at Mandarin’s bar (called MO bar) at 9PM-ish, met Desa (girl on the left), and together we waited for Mr. Styles & Mr. Tomlinson but neither of them showed up. They fucking ditched us I can’t!!!! =( Anyways, it was  the ladies night so my girls got unlimited free drinks at the bar. Also, someone got severely drunk (definitely not me). Haha!

Desa was so generous for letting us stay in her Hotel at Kempinski while she’s at work. Them ladies doing work while me goofing around. Thanks Desa!

At a hipster shop in the same mall. It was really sad that the spectacles I wanted costs over 500USD.

And finally… concert photos that don’t give justice to how amazing the show was, and more importantly on how we struggled to mob through the crowd just to reach near the barricade. The crowd was insane and literally hell (even though we were all out wet because of the rain). My girls know that. Nonetheless, it was all worth it. For the boys.

We went all kinds of crazy for this trip I can’t even find the right words. But one thing is for sure. I, Mary, and Sherica, and hopfeully with Claire will have more trips like this in the future. <3

Really? Is that the way it really is in Indonesia’s restaurants? Hahaha. Maybe one meal cost you a lot more than you think! :)) I really had fun going through your experience just to see 1D. It’s kind of messy, but fun! I definitely want to have an experience like this someday! HAHA

Felt the fun of the trip through this post! Wish I can also hop in a plane and travel out of the country impulsively like you, Chester! Haha!

Wow, I love your photos. A spontaneous trip sounds amazing. I have not done something like it before, only around Norway, but I don’t feel like that counts.

I have never tried Indonesian food but it looks delicious. And too bad you did not get to meet the guys 😛 At least it seems like you had a fun time, even though I can imagine a lot of screaming and shoving people could be a bit like hell/ scary!

Thanks Elena! You definitely have to try Indonesian food. I have read articles and it always tops Indonesian as the best food!

That is so great! It looked like it would have been a lot of fun, even with the rain and crazy fans! xD

I’ve never been to Jakarta and I guess the only reason I would go there would be for a show hahaha. I wanna go to Bali, tho!!!
